"I attended the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Utah and The Ohio State University in City and Regional Planning with additional, significant course work in art/architectural history at both universities. I recently retired from Ballard Spahr LLP, a national law firm.

When my wife and I moved to Salt Lake we started a photography company called Notan Photographique (Notan is a Japanese art term meaning the harmonious balance between form and tone). As Notan Photographique, my wife and I participated as art vendors with the Salt Lake Downtown Alliance’s Farmers Market for ten years. We were also participating artists in the Local Colors of Utah gallery. Other artistic involvement includes participation in numerous Utah art festivals such as Kayenta, Red Butte Garden, Moab, Salt Lake City’s Avenues, Heritage Park and the city of Holladay.

Desiring a change from photography about 7 years ago, I ventured into drawing, primarily with charcoal and pencil. Since August 2018, my primary artistic interest now focuses on pastel painting in which I use my personal photographic files from our travels as reference material. I am 100% self-taught." - Allan Merrill
